This summer, we launched our first Story Clay Studio, a four-day workshop combining storytelling and hands-on clay making.
Fourteen participants joined us to explore their creativity and bring their ideas to life through clay.

For years, these sculptures have stayed outside under Arizona sky. I enjoy seeing them in natural light.
Sunlight changes them every day.
Morning light softens the surfaces, afternoon lights deepens the shadows, and after rain the colors become richer for a short time before returning to the dry desert tones again.
Dust, wind, cactus, fallen branches, and shifting light slowly changed the experience of the work. I began to appreciate that the sculptures did not need to stay inside a gallery or protected space. Outside, they become part landscape and feel alive.
Purchased Gum solution from AMACO for the first time, and tested out. For a day, suspension, brush stroke, drying speed for layering is good. Water color effect and wash application not tested yet. Will do soon.
Curious of its shelf life. Used for my hand made underglaze and would like to know how long it lives with the work quality. Would like to check the condition after 2 weeks and 1 months.
Anyway for now, if anyone hand making underglaze or glaze, this is must buy.
Need of purple color, i bought Amaco velvet underglaze 12 packet, so I can test many underglaze with V380 violet, my target.
Result: V380 is pretty useful and stable purple, though it is a bit too light for my preference.
Below are other results
V381 amethyst, not my favorite at all, became too dark over iron rich clay, might work for white clay
V375 not useful at all, color vanished in cone 6 firing.
V385 cinnamon, too shiny
V386 too shiny blue
V383 really close to 6026 red, bit too shiny in cone 6
V373 medium brown, good cardboard color, useful for cardboard replica
V384 good orange and stable in its surface, I like it
V374 Nice light pink with a bit yellow shade, become shiny in thick area, might work on cone 5
V376 Hunter green, a bit blue green, surface is reliable, like it.
V372 Mint green, lighter version vermuda green, good for mint flavor.
Thank god I could finish the green work before my short trip.
In Japan, Black Sesami Frozen Yogurt is popular, and it is really black. Looking for the nice black from clay, I tested Cassius Basalt Black from Aaardvark. Cone 6 firing of bare clay gives a nice mature black color. It also gives a little metallic texture, which give me an impression of graphite. I better test how it looks with several clear glaze application.
Greenware is finished, and I will spend about a week for drying. I still remember that one sculpture I worked at RLCC cracked really bad because of rash drying. I have to convince myself to be patient.
At the same time of making Boar, making a test for a new idea. My miscalculation is that it is taking a lot longer.
